Around the Grounds with Hilly: Good Friday

28th March 2024

The 2024 Hampden Football Netball League is back, and the excitement for the year ahead is very strong amongst the local football community.

Each of the ten affiliate clubs have been busy during the off-season in recruiting, with so many high profile players coming into the HFNL, including former North Melbourne pair Ben Cunnington and Aaron Black, former Geelong Cat and Port Power midfielder Steven Motlop, ex Fremantle Docker Michael Barlow, previous NTFL Division One medal winner Eric Guthrie and key North Bullant VFL defender Alfie Armstrong to name a few.

We welcome new coaches into the competition this season, they are Brad Thomas (Hamilton), Lewy Taylor (Terang Mortlake), Nathan Vardy (North Warrnambool) and Lachie Hupputz (Portland Tigers). Some great young football minds who should perform well.

The season officially kicks off next Friday Night under lights at the Reid Oval with Warrnambool hosting Koroit in a night fixture, but the first game of the season lands on Good Friday with reigning premiers South Warrnambool hosting arch rivals Koroit at the Friendlies Society Park.

The clash is always an entertaining one and has been popular to kick start the season. The Roosters will be the hunted in 2024 while the Saints will be looking to improve on their first round exit in last year’s final series.

We spoke highly of the 2023 season, but the 2024 season promises to be even better in the HFNL.

Enjoy the season and all the best to the competing clubs.

See you at the Footy
