WDFUA: Round 1

WDFUA: Round 1

4th April 2025

The 2025 football season presents a significant opportunity to reinforce our commitment to the sustainability of umpiring in the South West. In collaboration with South West Sport and AFL Victoria, we have developed a strategic plan that not only reshapes our vision and values but also prioritises the long-term viability of umpiring in our region. Umpires are a crucial part of football, and ensuring their ongoing development, support, and retention is a key focus moving forward.

Central to this initiative is our mission to encourage and foster a culture of community, participation, and aspiration in umpiring. We recognize that a strong and sustainable football competition depends on having dedicated and skilled umpires who feel supported and valued. By investing in coachining, mentorship programs, and building positive relationships with leagues and clubs, we seek to create an environment where umpires can thrive.

We also want to acknowledge the clubs that contributed valuable feedback throughout the strategic planning process.  Open dialogue with clubs and stakeholders remains a priority, as we understand that a unified approach is essential to strengthening all aspects of the game. By working together, we can ensure that umpiring continues to be an attractive and well-supported pathway within football.

All the best for the 2025 season.
