WDFUA: Celebrating the role of females in local footy

16th May 2025

Alone we are Strong… Together we are Stronger!!
This unintentionally became our philosophy for the Women and Girls Experience hub that took place in Port Fairy on the 4th of May thanks to our special guest Tracey Roach. This philosophy resonated with many of us on the day and hopefully will continue throughout our season.

Together we spent the day learning some skills from AFLW umpires. After some discussion we were privileged to listen to Tracy (a local, respected Indigenous Artist) who shared her story and encouraged us to share our story and what it means for us to be female umpires. All involved in the day were encouraged to partake in an etching workshop.
With the greater involvement of females and the roles they play in football, it’s important to acknowledge their contribution whether it be on the field, on the sidelines around the clubs or umpiring the game. It is great to see more women and girls getting involved in a once male dominated sport. This is not possible with the support of fellow umpires, players and clubs.
