HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 8

30th May 2025

Round 7 of the Hampden Football Netball League delivered some thrilling netball action, with several matches going down to the wire and showcasing the depth of talent across the competition. One of the standout stories was Port Fairy claiming their second win of the season. The Seagulls have been building steadily, and their latest victory is a reward for their persistence and effort over the past month.

In one of the round’s marquee matchups, Warrnambool and Cobden battled in a high-quality contest that lived up to expectations. Both sides traded momentum throughout the game, with the Blues eventually holding firm to edge out a three-goal win in the dying minutes. The result reinforces Warrnambool’s status as a top contender, while Cobden showed they are not far off the mark.

Another close encounter saw two of the competition’s most improved sides, Camperdown and Portland, go head-to-head. Both teams have taken significant strides this season, and their clash was a great showcase of rising talent and disciplined team play. Camperdown held their nerve when it mattered most, securing a hard-fought six-goal win to further their finals aspirations.

Looking ahead, attention turns to this weekend’s Western Zone Qualifiers of the Netball Victoria Association Championships, to be held at Warrnambool. The Hampden League is proudly represented by five teams: U17, U15 Championship, U15 Reserves, U13 Championship and U13 Reserve. Each of these sides has been working tirelessly in the lead-up, and full credit must go to the players and coaches for their commitment and professionalism throughout the training program.

There’s a genuine sense of excitement and belief within the league that our championship teams can progress to the prestigious Melbourne State Titles. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our region’s best young talent to test themselves against the best in the state, and we wish all our teams the very best of luck this weekend.
