HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 7

HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 7

23rd May 2025

Port Fairy netballers celebrated a well-deserved breakthrough on the weekend, notching their first win of the 2025 season with a solid 10-goal victory over Koroit. The Seagulls have been competitive in most of their matches this year, and there’s no doubt the squad will be buoyed by finally securing those first four points. Their persistence and hard work are starting to pay off, and this win will provide a confidence boost heading into the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, preparation is in full swing for our junior netballers as they gear up for the Association Championships, with the Western Zone Qualifiers taking place next weekend. Training has intensified over recent weeks, and our junior squads are now putting the final touches on their preparations. Our coaches have done a brilliant job guiding their teams, not only giving players the opportunity to perform well at this level, but also helping them push for qualification to the state finals in Melbourne. We wish all our squads the very best as they represent the Hampden FNL.

It’s also been exciting to see Hampden talent shining on the bigger stage. Ally O’Connor has made the most of some recent opportunities with the Melbourne Vixens. Ally is a gifted athlete with a strong work ethic, and her performances are a testament to both her natural talent and dedication to continual improvement. It’s always rewarding to see our players step up to the next level, and we hope this is just the beginning of a bright future for Ally in elite netball.

This weekend, the league celebrates Indigenous Round — a special occasion that honours the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to our games of football and netball. Clubs will don specially designed Indigenous jumpers and netball bibs that reflect and celebrate culture, connection, and community. Those hosting matches will also commemorate the round with additional tributes and acknowledgements, further strengthening the bond between local sport and Indigenous heritage. It promises to be a weekend full of meaning, reflection and unity across the league.
