History was made last week as the first matches were played on the newly redeveloped netball courts at Hamilton’s Melville Oval. The state-of-the-art facilities were on full display under lights, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd who witnessed a showcase of local netball. The new surface and upgraded amenities add another layer of professionalism to the region’s competitions and provide a fantastic venue for players and spectators alike.
Portland continued their strong early season form with a solid victory over the Hamilton Kangaroos. The Tigers’ off-season work has clearly paid off, with key recruits blending seamlessly into their structure and fitness levels already peaking. Their cohesion and intensity suggest they’ll be a serious contender as the season unfolds.
All eyes now turn to this weekend’s mouth-watering match-up between Warrnambool and South Warrnambool. Both clubs boast deep, experienced lists and have started the season impressively. I am looking forward to the tactics employed by both great minds of the game – Will Jamison and Kate Lindsey.
The NAB U17 competition is again proving to be one of the most competitive and exciting parts of the local netball calendar. Last year’s Grand Finalists, Koroit and Camperdown, remain undefeated after three rounds. Both clubs are packed with emerging stars, many of whom are already contributing significantly in Open matches.
Meanwhile, preparations are ramping up for the Association Championships, with training underway and teams shaping up strongly. With just a month to go before the titles, there’s growing confidence that all squads will represent the region with pride and determination.
