This round of Hampden FNL netball is being played across two weekends, with matches spread over Easter and Anzac Day – giving clubs a chance to shine under marquee conditions. The traditional Good Friday blockbuster between last year’s grand finalists, South Warrnambool and Koroit, once again delivered a thrilling contest. Both teams went goal-for-goal in a high-pressure game, but it was the Roosters who prevailed, maintaining their unbeaten start to the season and reaffirming their title credentials.
The spotlight now turns to the Anzac Day fixtures, which promise plenty of excitement. Hamilton and Portland will lock horns in a match of extra significance – it will be the first netball fixture played on the newly developed courts at Melville Oval. The state-of-the-art venue provides a brilliant backdrop for what is sure to be a passionate and hard-fought contest between two proud clubs.
Adding further meaning to the day, Hamilton’s Steph Holcombe will run out for her 400th game – an incredible milestone that reflects her dedication, resilience, and contribution to netball in the region. Steph has been a stalwart of the Kangaroos since their entry into the Hampden FNL in 2013 and previously gave great service to Hamilton Imperials. Her leadership and presence on and off the court have been invaluable, and her 400-game achievement is one the entire netball community will celebrate.
Also featuring in the Anzac Day round are Terang Mortlake and Cobden, two sides eager to showcase their development in a prime-time fixture. The match provides a perfect platform for players from both clubs to rise to the occasion and stake their claims in what’s shaping up as a tight season.
Finally, congratulations go to Indi O’Connor on her standout performances for Victoria at the U17 National Titles. Indi represented the Big V with class and composure, and her form on the national stage hints at a bright future ahead. Her continued growth is something all in the Hampden league will be excited to watch.
With milestone moments, new venues, and representative success, it’s a thrilling time for Hampden netball.
