HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 14

HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 14

26th July 2024

Congratulation Amy Cooper on your Milestone game this week for Port Fairy.  Amy will play her 200th Senior Game.

Amy also played 101 junior games at Port Fairy.  Her netball journey began as a 12-year-old playing under 15’s like many juniors she played some senior games during this time.

Amy officially began her senior career in 2002 playing in B Grade (Division 1) for the following 4 seasons. Amy ventured to Merrivale for a season and then had a year in West Australia. On her return in 2009 Amy has consistently been involved at club land, playing, coaching and umpiring.

A real thrill for Amy was captaining the Division 2 premiership side in 2016.

Amy has worked hard on her umpiring and obtain her C grade badge in 2023 this reflects her commitment to the game.

Congratulations again Amy !!

Last week netballers played in very wet and windy conditions.  Considering the inclement weather the netball was played at a high standard. Watching the junior grades I was amazed at the standard of play. Well Done to all players, coaches, officials, and umpires for taking to the weather likes ducks to water.

A variety of results last week with some matches going down to the wire.

North Warrnambool got over a determined Terang/Mortlake 45-40

Cobden won a tight tussle defeating Port Fairy 47-42

Hamilton got the points against Portland 33-31

Warrnambool had a strong win against Camperdown 53-30

South Warrnambool continued their dominance defeating Koroit 48-24

Although it is mathematical possible .

I’m unsure that Camperdown and Terang/Mortlake can make the five however I believe not just these two teams but those not in the running for finals will shape how the final five looks.

The teams in the five will be mindful that the results in the last 5 games will be crucial in gaining the coveted second chance come finals.

The round 14 match between Warrnambool and South Warrnambool has already been played with South getting the four points.

The improving Camperdown will push the 2024 new look Cobden side however Sophie Hinkley will be prepping her side for finals Cobden to win comfortable.

North Warrnambool take on the Hamilton at Bushfield. The Kangaroo’s will be up and about after the win last week, but I don’t think North will let this one slip.

Koroit take on Portland at Hanlon Park, as I am still unsure of the availability of players at either of these clubs, so I am going for Koroit. The Saints need the win to keep the pressure on teams above them in the five.

Terang/Mortlake travel to the Gardens Oval.  I heard on good authority that Port Fairy played a great game in the inclement weather deserving their lead at the main break against Cobden last weekend, with that in mind I am going for Port Fairy in a tight tussle.
