HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 14

HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 14

22nd July 2022

A Cap of Last Week’s Results

Camperdown were impressive with a 20 goal win over the Portland Tigers. The Magpies’ form has been building all season and they have been very competitive with a number of teams in recent weeks. They have a lot to look forward to for next season.
Cobden edged closer to securing a top 3 spot with a comfortable win over Port Fairy scoring 59 goals to 25.
Amy Wormald was outstanding with her 42 goal haul when they defeated Terang Mortlake by 23 goals – 53 to 30. Aimee Moloney was the best for the Bloods.
South Warrnambool and Koroit had a great battle at Victoria Park. After losing Annie Blackburn to illness in the final hour, it took South Warrnambool a while to settle. Koroit took the lead early but the Roosters were able to fight back and force a draw.
North Warrnambool fought hard to secure a good win over the Hamilton Kangaroos. With Rachael Batten out due to injury, Millie Shiells filled the void in defence and helped her team get an early lead. Sky Billings also went off injured in the last quarter, but the Eagles were able to hang on to take an 8 goal win – 56 – 48.

Umpire Accreditation
Congratulations to Eloise Chivell from the Cobden FNC and also Bree Fox from the Port Fairy FNC. They were both tested for their C Badge accreditation last Saturday and were both successful. This is a fantastic effort for both Bree and Eloise. We wish them all the very best with their umpiring in the future.

Association Championships.
Good Luck to the 13/U, 15/U, 17/U and Open Representative Teams who will compete in the Association Championships Finals this Sunday at the State Netball Hockey Centre in Melbourne. This is an important event on the Netball Calendar for both players and Umpires. Talent Scouts will be in attendance to identify any emerging talent. Good luck to everyone involved.

Milestone Games
Congratulations to Sarah O’Donnell (nee Walsh) from the South Warrnambool Football Netball Club who will play her 300th game this Saturday. Sarah has played all Junior Grades for the Club as well as Open and Div 1 and is currently playing in the Div 2 competition. As a Div 1 player Sarah was fortunate enough to win a Premiership and is currently the 17/U Reserves Coach. Sarah has also won multiple Club Best and Fairest awards. Congratulations on your significant game this weekend Sarah. 300 games is an amazing effort over many years. Well Done!

My predictions for this Week

With some very important games being played this weekend we could potentially see some changes to the Top 5 ladder positions. However, with Covid and Influenza cases on the rise again, it is difficult to know who will have their full team.

South Warrnambool take on Warrnambool at the Friendlies Society Park. If Warrnambool are able to get a win here, relying on the results of other games, they could find themselves in the Top 3 at the end of the round. However, I think the Roosters will be keen to hold onto top spot so have a lot to play for. I think South can take the points here in what will be a great contest.

Koroit make the trip to Cobden and will need to get a win here if they are wanting to secure a top 3 spot. Koroit are starting to come together as a team quite nicely so they will be very competitive against the bombers. If Cobden’s defensive trio (Remeny McCann, Nadine McNamara and Sarah Moroney) can get the upper hand early I think Cobden will win a close contest.

Camperdown play Port Fairy at the Gardens Oval. Port Fairy will be very keen for a win but Camperdown have been improving week to week and I think they will get another win over the seagulls.

North Warrnambool take on Portland at Bushfield. Last time they met Portland took the points in what was considered a major upset. I think North Warrnambool have too much to play for this week and will get the job done.

In the last game of the round Terang Mortlake play the Hamilton Kangaroos. Hamilton has proved they are a very competitive team against some of the best teams in the Competition. They have been the big improvers this year and I think they can take the win here.

Good Luck to all teams competing this weekend in both Football and Netball

Good Luck and Have Fun.
