HFNL Weekly Netball Wrap: Round 13

17th July 2025

It’s been a week of celebrations and standout performances across the netball courts, with two of the competition’s finest reaching impressive milestones. Camperdown’s star goal-shooter Nell Mitchell hit the 200 Open game mark last weekend—a remarkable achievement that reflects her longevity, consistency, and impact in the goal circle. Her contribution to the Magpies over the years has been immense, and the milestone is a testament to her dedication to the game.

This weekend, Cobden’s Jess McGlade will notch up her 100th Open game. A reliable and versatile player, Jess has been a cornerstone of the Bombers’ lineup for years, showcasing leadership and skill week in, week out. Both Nell and Jess have been tremendous servants of their clubs and should be incredibly proud of their milestones.

On the court, Cobden sent a strong message to the rest of the competition with a jaw-dropping 84-goal effort last week. It was an attacking masterclass, with Sophie Hinkley and Jaymie Finch putting on a clinic in the goal circle. Their movement, accuracy, and chemistry were near-flawless, leaving defenders with few answers.

The Bombers’ red-hot form now places them firmly in premiership conversations alongside the likes of South Warrnambool, Warrnambool and Koroit. With finals approaching, this kind of dominance is exactly what clubs are striving for—and Cobden is peaking at the right time.

This weekend also shapes as a crucial one for both Camperdown and Portland. If the Magpies win and the Tigers fall, Camperdown will push 10 points clear—giving them valuable breathing room. But if Portland gets the win and the Magpies stumble, the gap narrows to just two points. Plenty of hypotheticals are in play, but one thing’s certain: it’s an important round for both clubs with plenty riding on the result.
