The Hampden Football Netball League is proud to announce its Open Netball squad for the upcoming Association Championships State Finals, to be held later this month. A nine-player squad has been named, with six different clubs represented, showcasing the strength and depth of talent across the league.
Coach Jill Leader is thrilled with the group selected and believes the mix of youth and experience will serve the team well.
“I’m rapt with the balance we’ve found,” Leader said. “We’ve got some exciting emerging players and some seasoned campaigners who know what it takes. This combination gives us great flexibility and adaptability depending on the matchups.”
The State Finals are a fantastic opportunity for Hampden’s best to shine on the big stage, and this squad will no doubt represent the league with pride.
There will also be major celebrations at Hamilton Kangaroos this weekend, with two beloved Division 3 players reaching outstanding milestones. Joe McKew will take the court for her 400th game, a remarkable achievement reflecting years of dedication and commitment. Joining her in the spotlight is Sharnah Malseed, who will play her 250th game. Both players have been fantastic club servants and are highly respected and admired by teammates, opponents and the broader netball community. Congratulations to Joe and Sharnah on these incredible milestones.
On court, Hamilton’s Open side finally broke through for their first win of the season, with Molly Sevior delivering a standout performance. Her composure, and playmaking proved the difference in a tight contest.
Meanwhile, Eva Ryan continues to impress. Despite battling illness, the Warrnambool sharpshooter was flawless against Terang Mortlake, shooting 49 goals from 49 attempts in a brilliant display of consistency and accuracy. That effort takes her season tally to an incredible 362 goals — a testament to her hard work and poise under pressure.
As we enter Round 10, the top four — South Warrnambool, Warrnambool, Koroit and Cobden — will look to cement their positions. But the race for fifth is heating up, with Camperdown, Portland, Port Fairy and Terang Mortlake all within a game of each other. With finals spots up for grabs, every match from here on in is crucial.
Round 10 is shaping up as another blockbuster weekend. Get out and support your club — every game matters!
