Thank you very much to the Clubs who successfully hosted home games with COVID restrictions last week. Whilst it was difficult to return to Community Sport in these challenging times, we appreciate the support and the efforts of all the Club Volunteers who helped make it possible. Despite the welcomed Victorian Government announcement to return to Community Sport, with crowds, earlier this week, there is still an increased workload for volunteers to adhere to the COVID policies and procedures and it is our expectation for all officials, players, coaches and spectators to be supportive of these necessary measures to keep our venues safe for everyone.
Last Week’s results
Camperdown had a tightly contested match with Hamilton kangaroos at Leura Oval. The margin was very close all game and Camperdown were able to overcome a narrow deficit at the final change to claim victory by two goals; Nell Mitchell and Raechel Dobson combined well in attack for Koroit when they had a comfortable win over Port Fairy. Emily Batt and Bernadette Meade performed well in defense for their respective teams; Cobden retained top spot on the ladder with a 17 goal win over Warrnambool. Molly Hutt had an outstanding performance with 24 goals and Best on Court honours; Hannah Bunney and Lauren Hockley combined well in attack putting a lot of pressure on the North Warrnambool defense. North’s defensive pressure in the third quarter enabled them to get and top and were eventual winners by 12 goals; South Warrnambool continued on their winning way to account for Terang Mortlake by 12 goals.
This Week’s Games
Camperdown make the journey to Hanlon Park to take on the Portland tigers. If Camperdown are still without their star recruit, Ruby Pekin-Schlicht, Portland are capable of causing an upset. I believe Portland’s weapon to be their timing and dynamic passing in attack and if they are able to continue their shooting accuracy, they could come away with the 4 points.
Koroit take on the Hamilton Kangaroos at Melville oval. I think it will be a battle of the defenders. Both Hamilton and Koroit boast a key goalie and Koroit’s strength in defense will have the ability to shut down Hamilton’s attack and will be a key to helping them claim victory over the Kangaroos.
Warrnambool will be keen to get back on the winners list to try and cement a place in the top 5. For me, Warrnambool will have too much experience for Port Fairy and will take the points here.
Terang Mortlake host the North Warrnambool Eagles. The height and agility of the North’s defense has proven a great strength in their last few games and I expect they will continue that form into this week. Brooke Hoare has also been in great form this season and will do her best to close off North’s options in attack. However, I think North will be too strong here and earn their 5th win of the season.
Association Championships
Please note the Change of dates for the Association Championships. The Preliminary rounds are now to be played on July 11th at Wendouree and the finals will be played on August 1st. I know the Coaches/Selectors have been busy trying to finalise their teams and I expect the 13/U. 15/U and 17/U teams will be announced in the very near future.
