Umpire Development Day

I would sincerely like to thank all the Umpire Coaches who all did an amazing job last weekend assisting with the development of our Umpires.  Joy Errey, Wilma Wallace, Shirley McSwain, Karen Huf, Nikki Mitchem, Renae Sullivan, Megan Logan, Amelia Armytage and also Ann Castles and Deb Hemer from Netball Victoria did a fantastic job mentoring a majority of our umpires.

Thank you also to the Umpire Coordinators at each club who supported us in the organization of this day.  Well done to all the umpires.  Hopefully you will benefit from the feedback you have been given.  It is our aim to continue to monitor the performance of the umpires during the coming weeks and further assist with more mentoring and/or testing later in the season.

Results from last week

South Warrnambool continue to shine this season putting in another solid team performance last week to easily account for Port Fairy, winning 61 – 21.  Once again, Annie Blackburn was outstanding in attack, whilst Alicia Moloney tried hard for the seagulls.

Camperdown were competitive against their close town rivals Cobden until half time but then the bombers had the upper edge in the third quarter scoring 16 goals to 6 and put the match beyond doubt.  They were eventual winners by 23 goals.

Terang Mortlake would have been relatively happy with their start to the match at Victoria Park only a goal down at half time.  Mollie McKinnon and Millie Jennings worked hard defensively in the second half causing many turnovers and helped the Saints score a 15 goal win.

Portland scored their first win for the season on Monday in their Anzac Day clash with the Hamilton Kangaroos.  Portland were very impressive in attack with Jessica Crow putting in a best on court performance and scoring a majority of their goals.  Hamilton, who currently have a number of players out injured, struggled to make the most of their opportunities, going down by 21 goals at the final siren.

North Warrnambool took the lead early in their game against Warrnambool but the Blues steadied and clawed back into the game and went on to win by 12 goals.  Amy Wormald and Jessica Thwaites combined well in attack to help secure the 4 points.

My predictions for this week.

Cobden take on Port Fairy at the Bendigo Bank Community Reserve.  Port Fairy will struggle against the defensive pressure from Cobden and the bombers should win comfortably.

Portland Tigers are always hard to beat at home and I think Camperdown, who are still developing some of their younger players, will struggle against a tough Portland opponent.

Warrnambool take the trip down the highway to Terang to take on the bloods.  I anticipate this to be a close game and the difference will come from the strength of Warrnambool’s attack.  The blues will get over the line, just.

North Warrnambool verse Hamilton at home.  Hamilton are struggling to fill the void with a few players out injured and may struggle against the fast paced Eagles.  However, the Eagles are still working on finding their best combinations and will have to score accurately if they are to earn the points here.

As there will be no record next week, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Mums a very Happy Mother’s Day for May 8th.  Hope all enjoy your Special Day.

Good Luck to all football and netball teams competing this weekend.
