Another Hampden powerhouse and one of bush footys best big-league nurseries with many VFL/AFL players having learned their trade with the Roosters. The club began playing at the showgrounds in the Western District league, but moved to the Hampden league in 1933 and its Friendly Societies Park fortress has since become one of the most feared trips in the Western District.

History Highlights

One of the great country footy seasons was capped in 2006 when the Roosters won flags in seniors, reserves and under-18s having lost just five matches across all three grades. But the clubs best sustained success came in the early 1990s in teams coached by former Fitzroy and Richmond backman Noel Mugavin. Three bush footy legends Stephen “Shorty” Anderson, Leigh Marris and Darren Boulden were in the 1996 flag team, coached by Leigh McCluskey. So strong was the urge to play for the jumper, McCluskey reportedly coached the Roosters in return for a fridge and his charges played for much less than they were offered elsewhere.
