Around the Grounds with Hilly

25th March 2021

Hampden Football is finally back, and we welcome it with open arms.

It feels like its been an eternity since we saw Koroit win their 6th consecutive premiership, and this season they get another opportunity to create more history.

The off-season has been busy both on and off the field. The Hampden League has a new president, Garry Perrett, and already he and his hard-working consecutive have made some exciting announcements regarding major sponsorship and live streaming of the Hampden League Live Match of the Round.

Off the field, a number of new recruits have entered the league, with a number of them highly credentialed. Some of the major names to be running around in the Hampden League this season include former Hawthorn utility Ricky Henderson, ex St Kilda super-boot Shane Savage, former St Kilda midfielder Josh Saunders returns along with ex Gold Coast Sun Louis Herbert.

The competition appears to be extremely even once again with most sides adding some quality players to their lists. All eyes will be on Hamilton and Portland this season, both clubs have recruited well and will be looking to make their first final appearances since joining the competition in 2013 under new coaches Gerard Fitzgerald and Jarrod Holt.

The 2021 season in my mind will be extremely close, and this is how I believe it could finish:

Premiers – Koroit

Grand Finalists – South Warrnambool

Top 5 – Koroit, South Warrnambool, North Warrnambool, Warrnambool and Hamilton Kangaroos

Maskell Medallist – Josh Saunders (Sth WBool)

Leading Goalkicker – Jason Rowan (WBool)

Player to Watch – Thomas Scott (Hamilton Kangaroos)

I’m jumping out of my skin to watch and commentate some Hampden League action in 2021, but most of all, its going to be terrific to be reconnecting with the Hampden League community again.

See you at the Footy
