North Warrnambool has emerged as the standout side in the early stages of the 2025 Hampden FNL season, remaining undefeated and displaying a strong brand of football built on consistency and hunger. The Eagles have benefited from the rise of several players stepping into senior roles and thriving with added responsibility. Zac Everall, Tom Keast, and Bailee Keast have all impressed with their development and impact, while coach Nathan Vardy has been a dominant force in the ruck, steering the midfield group with experience and composure. The Eagles’ defensive unit has also held firm under pressure, making them a well-rounded outfit once again eyeing a deep finals campaign.
Off the field, it was a fantastic weekend for the league’s junior ranks, with Hampden FNL enjoying great success at the South West Junior Carnival. Hampden teams triumphed in both the Under 14 and Under 17 competitions, with three of the four sides making their respective Grand Finals and the fourth narrowly missing out by percentage. It was a valuable experience for all involved, giving players the opportunity to test themselves at a higher level, forge new friendships, and learn from the league’s outstanding group of coaches. A big thank you goes to Justin Impey, Justin Marris, Stephen Sinnott, and Aaron Ross for their leadership and commitment to our future stars.
This weekend, the league celebrates Indigenous Round — a special occasion that honours the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to our games of football and netball. Clubs will don specially designed Indigenous jumpers and netball bibs that reflect and celebrate culture, connection, and community. Those hosting matches will also commemorate the round with additional tributes and acknowledgements, further strengthening the bond between local sport and Indigenous heritage. It promises to be a weekend full of meaning, reflection and unity across the league.
