Around the Grounds with Hilly: Round 16

8th August 2024

Three rounds remain in the 2024 Hampden FNL season, and there is so much to play out over the next couple of weeks in regard to finals contenders and teams that will earn the double chance.

Warrnambool and Terang Mortlake are sitting on 40 points each, fighting for the final spot inside the top three. While Koroit and Cobden are in an arm wrestle on who fills the fifth and final spot in the finals. Both teams have a hard fixture to finish off the season, so knowing our top five teams will perhaps come down to the final week of the season.

What a year it has been, and we will be spoiled with a grandstand finish.

Martin Reaches 200 Games

Multiple Port Fairy Best and Fairest winner Issac Martin will line up in his 200th senior match this weekend. The inside midfielder has been an integral part of the Seagulls line up for many years, and his consistency each week is a big hallmark of his game. ‘Egg’ has seen many highs at the Port Fairy FNC including a Grand Final appearance, as well as seeing many lows, but his commitment and dedication to the club has never waived. It is a tremendous milestone, and one I know that Issac would be very proud of. A great servant of the Port Fairy FNC.

Junior Finals

The second week of the HFNL Junior Finals will be staged this weekend at the Bushfield Recreation Reserve. Five teams will be represented across the four matches played including Koroit, South Warrnambool, Terang Mortlake, North Warrnambool and Warrnambool. The standard of football was outstanding at Portland last weekend, and with Grand Final berths on offer, I would suggest the junior standard will step up a few notches.
