Around the Grounds with Hilly: Round 14

Around the Grounds with Hilly: Round 14

26th July 2024

The first of the final series were completed last weekend, with the Western Victoria Female Football League crowning their champions. Two Hampden League teams in North Warrnambool and South Warrnambool were able to win silverware, in the U15 and U18 Grand Finals respectively. Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval was a brilliant facility to use, and it certainly has one of the best playing surfaces in the competition. The support was unbelievable last weekend, and it’s a credit to the clubs involved, the work they do throughout the season to fully embrace the female football program. Congratulations to all teams who competed and those that celebrated in force on Sunday night.

Mahoney Returns

Sensational news for Cobden FNC this week, with the reappointment of Brody Mahoney as senior football coach. Brody is a terrific football mind, and all those at Cobden have been fortunate to learn from one of the great players in the competition. The Bombers have a big four weeks coming up in their quest to play finals football once again, and Brody will be analysing every detail of their game plan and opposition to ensure the red and black play in September. A great re-appointment for the Bombers, they have a great person at the helm.

Vale Bob Templeton

Hamilton recognised a local football legend last weekend in their clash with Portland, wearing black armbands recognising Bob Templeton. A Western Border and Hampden League Life Member, Bob was renowned for his football ability and coaching but also his service to the game as an administrator. He has a long CV of achievements including receiving an OAM in 2001 for distinguished service to country football and administration.

A football name that will forever be remembered in the Hamilton region.

Premix Concrete Cup

Arch rivals Cobden and Camperdown will play for a new piece of silverware this weekend, when they play for the Premix Concrete Cup ‘Battle of Bostock’s’ Trophy. Premix Concrete owner Bob Case is passionate about local football and is a big driver behind this game. The Corangamite Shire has three great HFNL clubs and tomorrow’s clash between the Magpies and Bombers will showcase the talent running around. A great new initiative for two teams coming up.
